About Foot in The Door

WiTA’s FiTD program provides a defined training pathway for women to obtain a Heavy Vehicle (HV) license and find employment. As part of the program, WiTA connects newly licensed female HV drivers to experienced mentors to help them get established in their career.

The FiTD program is administered by the NHVR and funded by the Commonwealth. The program offers a tailored and approach to training and employment for successful applicants.

General Information

  • Training and employment subsidies will be sourced where applicable.

  • Funding is determined on a case-by-case basis.

  • Training is provided in the successful applicant’s local area.

  • Funds can be used for a variety of purposes including but not limited to driver training and assessment, PPE/logbooks, wages, load restraint, forklift and fatigue management.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the FiTD program, applicants must hold one of the following licenses:

  • C Class

  • MR (Medium Rigid)

  • HR (Heavy Rigid)

  • HC (Heavy Combination)

In addition, all applicants will be required to:

  • Hold Australian citizenship or permanent residence

  • Provide contact details of Registered Training Authorities (RTOs) in their area

  • Provide contact details of and potential employers in their area

Application Process
& Documents

As part of the online application process, you will need to provide these documents:

  • Driver's License
    Copy of your Australian driver’s license

  • Driving Record
    (Minimum five years) from the relevant state licensing authority

  • Resume - including contact details for two character references

Selection Process

All applications for FITD are considered - provided they meet the eligibility criteria.

Training & Placement

Successful applicants will receive written confirmation of their acceptance into the FiTD program. Training will commence soon after.
